Are WordPress Websites Free?

Posted on by

The WordPress software is free to download. Anyone can download the software from the official website for WordPress.org
click here if you would like to download it

Once you have it downloaded, you have to find a place to host it. This is usually where the costs comes. Hosting the WP software is usually where a lot of people get stuck. While anyone familiar and experienced with terms like ftp and mysql can easily get the software installed, someone that has not used these methods may find it difficult. If you don’t know what mysql is.. then my suggestion is to find a host that includes the wordpress set-up included in their package. You can find some very cheap solutions.. (maybe even free), but be very careful with free, cheap or extreme low-cost hosting. You may find yourself in a situation that requires a lot of money in terms of paying someone else to help you move it to a reliable host.

You can go with a free product like WordPress.com. Their sites are easy to get installed. Keep in mind, you will limited in some features. To use your own domain, there are costs involved and you still may not have everything that you may want in the future.

If you have never used WordPress and would like to set-up a free site with hosting, then use this free wordpress website link for a free online guide to starting a business with a free wordpress website.. ( you can actually have 2 free websites hosted for free )

Once you have set-up your account, you will have a complete guide to setting up your first website for business.

Of course if you want to use a custom domain, there is an upgrade costs. In addition to being able to use your own domain for the website you create in the guide, you can set-up unlimited websites on the account.

The upgrade is not required. You are free to stick with the free starter account and work on building a business with your website. This website you are looking at right now is an example of something that you can build for free with the Starter Account. Free Online Website Builder

Are you looking for an easy free online website builder? Having your website builder completely online is important. I remember back in the day…( love that phrase BTW) , we needed software installed on our computer, we built websites with html coding and uploaded the sites via FTP ( File Transfer Protocol ) software. Setting up a hosting account was a challenge in itself. Hosting fees were expensive from anyone that actually provided support. Having the software and code hosted on a computer made it kind of hard to update from remote locations. I remember telling clients, “Let me get back to the office to fix that for you”. If I would have had sites built like they are now, I could have simply logged in from their location or anywhere I could get on the web and quickly make some updates on the website. Why not WordPress.com?

WordPress (WP) websites can be set-up at WordPress.com or set-up using their FREE software at the hosting service of your choice.

free-websitesWordPress.com is a GREAT service. I have used it many times in the past for marketing  products and services for both myself and for other clients. One of my issues with WordPress.com, as an experienced WP developer, is that I do not have access to all the controls built and available on the WP platform. They recommend self-hosted WordPress sites and provide the software for free as well. With this service, you need to get a host and go through the steps of setting it up… That’s where WAU comes in. Sign up for FREE at WAU and get a FREE website with full WP capabilities at SiteRubix.
